Greek from France, Angelique Ionatos sets to music the writings of her favorite poet Odeysseus Elytis (Nobel Prize for literature in 1979) and fragments in ancient Greek of Sapphô of Mytilene (7th century BC). In this 2009 album, she meets the young Greek singer Katerina Fotinaki to make us discover, by rearranging them with verve, some compositions by Manos Hadjidakis.
This pillar of neo-Hellenic music remains very little known outside his country despite his Oscar for best music in the film Jamais le dimanche (1960) by Jules Dassin (Joe's father), played by the director's companion and other Greek celebrity, Melina. Mercouri.
The two singers also perform songs from the French repertoire and draw inspiration from traditional Greek songs to tell us about nostalgia, exile, but above all about love. In this album of a dozen pieces recorded in public in Lyon in September 2008, Angélique and Katerina take us on a musical night walk in the privacy of a Mediterranean garden.
A magical garden which, thanks to their poetic and musical complicity, becomes the place of unexpected emotions, small miracles of improvisation and humor. Two voices and four guitars that perform new music, popular songs or magnificent variations on old themes. The CD and accompanied by a DVD of the concert where a new breath swirls in this duet recital.
