Hungaroton has repeatedly dedicated itself to the rediscovery of one of the most dazzling musical personalities of the Mozart / Haydn / Beethoven era: Ignaz Pleyel. The Lower Austrian was a pupil of Vanhal and Haydn, and after a successful stay in Italy became music director at the Strasbourg Cathedral. On a major concert tour in 1791 / 92, Haydn and Pleyel met in London, and - under contract to various concert managers - they had to compete in a friendly competition. From 1795 Pleyel worked in Paris, from where he was able to celebrate Europe-wide successes, above all as a music publisher and founder of a piano factory. The Quartets op. 11 originate from his most productive creative period and are representatives of a mature, high-classical style - they seem like siblings of the works of Haydn and Mozart.
