Jandó offers Lisztian playing of the highest order, confirming the Années de pèlerinage as being among the supreme masterpieces of the piano. Sposalizio is superbly evoked, and the three contrasted Petrarch Sonnets bring the most imaginatively varied characterization, with No. 123 especially chimerical. But clearly Jandó sees the Dante Sonata as the climactic point of the whole series. His performance has tremendous dynamism and power. One has the sense of Liszt himself hovering over the keyboard.
