The third episode of the series features an example of a Requiem setting from the 19th and 20th centuries. For the 19th century, Bruckner's 1849 setting was chosen, which the extremely self-critical composer after two revisions nevertheless described as "not bad" - an exorbitant understatement, as every music lover will confirm. Maurice Duruflé's setting from 1947, as an example from the 20th century, renounces all avant-gardeisms that were so en vogue in France at the time, but, through his extremely calm and meditative character, clearly place.s himself in the tradition of Fauré's settings, which brought him international success.
