This DVD of the legendary pianist Sviatoslav Richer was filmed at the Barbican Centre in 1989 under challenging conditions. As Richter detested filmed or televised concerts, he only agreed to the performance being recorded if certain rules were adhered to: No camera was to enter his field of vision and also the lighting in the hall had to be restricted to a single 40 watt bulb trained directly on the music. • This DVD also comes with bonus material of a BBC broadcast from 1969 in which Richter performs Chopin Etude Op. 10 Nos 4 and 12 and Rachmaninov Etude Tableau Op. 39 No. 3.
