2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Tartini’s death and this triple-disc set completes our recording of Tartini’s complete solo violin sonatas. • Črtomir Šiškovič is a specialist in the repertoire. • This release was recorded in the beautiful Biblioteca del Monastero di San Giovanni, Parma, which is a hidden treasure of the Renaissance. The programme for this triple-disc set features 16 sonatas for solo violin that Giuseppe Tartini is thought to have written between 1745 and 1750; they are housed today in the archive of the Veneranda Arca del Santo in Padua. This collection contains the autograph manuscripts of these works that the composer kept editing throughout his lifetime, as the many marginal additions and corrections attest. However, many of these sonatas have also come down to us through other contemporary manuscript copies, which often differ substantially from the autographs, thus making it futile to look for a 'final' or 'correct' version. • Črtomir Šiškovič is a violinist of Slovenian origin from Trieste and a specialist in Tartini’s music. Where there were alternative movements for each sonata, he chose those that he deemed best for his interpretation, just as Tartini would have expected.
