Yale Philharmonia is the largest ensemble at the Yale School of Music, and has been described by the New York Times as “sensational, polished and dramatic!” This release announces a new long-term relationship between Nimbus and the Yale Music faculties which will include recordings from Yale Symphony Orchestra, Yale Marching Band and Yale Glee Club along with other chamber music programmes. The first release from this exciting new partnership brings together some of the most eminent members of the Yale faculty. • Critics and performers have admired the beautiful melodies, colourful orchestrations, virtuosic displays and breadth of expression in Mozart’s piano concertos since he improvised many of the solo parts at their first performances. Along with the Beethoven String Quartets or Bach cantatas, his twenty-seven concertos constitute one of the finest repertoires ever produced by a single composer in a single genre. They contain some of Mozart’s most innovative formal experiments and intricate motivic developments. And, as is evident in the selections on this cd, each one is unique.
