At first glance, Beethoven’s first string trio Op.3 in E flat major shares numerous similarities with Mozart’s string trio K563, the fact that it contains the same unusually high number of six movements, and that it is composed in the same key. Beethoven’s composition, however, also abounds with his own individual ideas and a unique expressiveness. • Beethoven’s Serenade Op.8 in 5 movements contains such an abundance of explosive musical material that Ernö von Dohnányi, a composer of the late romantic period, drew his inspiration from the work more than a century later. • The Trio Italiano d’Archi was established in 2004 and has since given numerous concerts at important venues and festivals. They will record the complete works for string trio for Brilliant Classics. • The extensive liner notes in the booklet are in both English and Italian.
