In the early 17th century, the violin emancipated itself as an independent solo instrument to which a growing number of composing virtuosos and composers dedicated technically demanding pieces that continued to explore the instrument's possibilities. While at the beginning the vocal music was still closely oriented, soon an idiomatic language was developed for the instrument, which was already fully developed in the sonatas Pandolfi Mealli, Fontanas and Castellos.
With his album the Italian violinist Enrico Onofri wants to make this emancipation process comprehensible.
