After two premiere recordings featuring the cantatasAfter two premiere recordings featuring the cantatas forming Gottfried Heinrich Stoelzel’s Christmas Oratorio, the Marienkantorei Lemgo under Rainer Johannes Homburg now rediscovers Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer. From the late seventeenth century until the middle of the eighteenth century Fischer not only busied himself with his tasks as court music director in Rastatt but also gained renown as a highly talented composer of sacred and secular instrumental and vocal music.
In keeping with historical performance practice at the Baden court, Handel’s Company accompanies on historical instruments. The fine acoustics of the historic church in the Hanseatic town of Lemgo produce a fine audible effect in Rainer Johannes Homburg’s ”supple interpretation, aiming at transparency and intimacy” • (Fono Forum).
