Although almost 300 years have passed since the completion of the Sei Solo for violin by J. S. Bach, this work has still not lost any of its exceptional status. In general, the acceptance of the sonatas and partitas, which bear the annotation a[nn]o 1720 in the autograph fair copy, seems to have been extraordinary from the time of their composition: For while there are only a few compositions from that time of which several copies have survived, four (!) handwritten copies of the Sei Solo from the 18th century are known, in addition to Bach's autograph, including that of his wife Anna Magdalena.
