Beethoven's »Hammerklaviersonate« (sonata for fortepiano) from cpo? Rather unusual, but we made an exception for Markus Becker's interpretation. Following his epoch-making recording of Max Reger's works for piano for Thorofon, Markus Becker gave proof of his well-deserved status as one of the best pianists from the younger generation at cpo with J. L. Dussek's difficult sonatas (cpo 777 020-2) and his Antheil interpretations (cpo 777 109-2). The pianist and professor for piano from Hannover carefully places his accents, and presents the timbres by composing Antheil suitably ambiguously and with vibration. »Becker's very transparently structured piano playing is likely to surprise many a listener«, is the verdict from klassik-heute about his Dussek recordings; and the »pope of piano critics«, unfortunately meanwhile deceased Knut Franke, wrote in Fono Forum: »One of the pianists with the highest powers of creation, not just in his generation.« And now there are Becker's interpretations of Beethoven's sonatas. Enjoy!
