The players create a full-bodied sound with a great deal of color and rhythmic vitality. There is, as seems to be fashionable at the moment, a bit too much percussion, though it never overwhelms the other performers; I can accept it in the marches, but sometimes in other types of dances it seems in questionable taste. While more recordings of the complete operas would be greatly appreciated, this collection is an excellent introduction to Steffani's music.
