1791: a busy year for Mozart, who, when he was commissioned to write a requiem, was already working on the "Magic Flute" and was soon to deliver "La clemenza di Tito". What happened then is known: The work for the commissioned work is postponed; exhaustion; death; an unfinished work left unfinished, the completion of which Süßmayr finally took over after various composers had been requested. This version gradually established itself as the closest to Mozart's intentions, but is not free of defects in movement and instrumentation. In 2016, Pierre-Henri Dutron, a young French composer, convinced René Jacobs to perform his own revision of the Requiem completed by Süßmayr. This new version was first performed with great success in a series of five concerts throughout Europe in November 2016. Now the first recording, recorded exclusively for harmonia mundi in the studio, is available.
