'the present disc is devoted to selections from the 150 or so pieces in van Eyck's published book of 1644, many of them being variations on popular tunes or themes by other composers, Dowland among them. This is music to charm with its directness and, in Engels Nachtegaeltje, innocent imagery, and from time to time astonish with its virtuosity. I wouldn't be surprised if Marion Verbruggen could have given van Eyck a run for his money technically speaking, for she plays with the sureness, firm pitch and facility of a good keyboardist, and one whose hands are perfectly co-ordinated in the two (dubbed) duets an advantage van Eyck did not have... The recording is vivid and the annotation is excellent.' Gramophone 'With an artist like Verbruggen, the variety of effects is great enough that one is always ready to hear just one more piece.' • Fanfare
