Orpheus, the famous protagonist of Orfeo ed Euridice, is one of the heroic roles of Gluck, composed for virtuoso alto voice (castrati or female contraltos), and which is the subject of this recording. With this new program, Glossa is helping to fill an important gap since much of this repertoire of Gluck aria, initially intended for men or heroines in disguise, is unexplored and very little recorded. Sonia Prina, a major contralto of her generation, in collaboration with the excellent Milanese ensemble La Barocca, conducted by Ruben Jais, offers us her first operatic recital dedicated to Gluck and brings these heroic arias, wrongly forgotten, to life.
