The "Messiah" is basically nothing more than a biography of Jesus told in metaphors, depicted with all the dramatic power, passion and religious emphasis of Handel, the "theatre man" as Rubén Dubrovsky, conductor of this recording, called him.
The performance of 19 March 2016 in Klosterneuburg Abbey documented here was a re-encounter and new encounter with Handel's oratorio and its theme.
The librettist Charles Jennens tells the life of Jesus allegorically: his miraculousness, his mercy and his compassion, and his perfection, for which Handel offers all the triumphal splendour of baroque instruments
