Brand new, world premiere recording of 3 classical works by respected Korean composer Jeajoon Ryu: Cello Concerto; Marimba Concerto; Overture ‘Il Nome della Rosa’. Both concerti were written especially for the soloists who perform them on this disc. Arto Noras, recognised worldwide as one of the finest cellists of our time, is the featured soloist in Ryu’s melodic Cello Concerto. ‘This cellist is truly awesome.’ (New York Daily News) ‘What a fine performer the Finnish cellist Arto Noras is.’ (Gramophone) The haunting 2nd movement of Ryu’s Marimba Concerto was influenced by the 2014 sinking of passenger ferry MV Sewol, in which over 300 people (mostly school students) tragically lost their lives. Prize-winning Korean marimbist June Moon Kyung Hahn is the featured soloist. Currently in its 70th anniversary year, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by their permanent associate conductor, Grzegorz Nowak, whose insightful musical interpretations have been widely praised.
