The overtures of Carl Maria von Weber are derived from the preludes of his stage works, and encompass his career from young student composer to masterful maturity. Weber was known as the father of German Romantic opera. Today, even though only one opera continues to be frequently performed (Der Freischutz) his overtures have stood the test of time. This complete recording of Weber’s Overtures features the WDR Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Howard Griffiths.
