Even before they had met, they were dedicating hours of practice to Franz Liszt's Mephisto Waltzes. An interNational Symphony Orchestralo piano competition was coming up, and the two young pianists were scheduled to vie against each other with this work. Twenty-five years and dozens of successful competitions later, the same two pianists sat down opposite each other at two grand pianos in the Hans Rosbaud Studio in Baden-Baden. Now they were performing not as rivals but as a team – as the renowned and internationally sought-after Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo. And once again the music of Franz Liszt occupied the focus! »This time, however, this music reveals to us very different worlds of absolutely boundless emotion charging every tone of these works and leading the composer himself not only to venture beyond the limits of the pianistically possible but also at the same time to reflect on the enormous depth of human feeling. On the basis of our common background strongly marked by solo piano performance, we have decided to dedicate this CD recording to Franz Liszt's original works for two pianos and to his versions of his own solo piano compositions for two pianos« (Genova & Dimitrov Piano Duo).
